Understanding Tongue- and Lip-Tie
Children with tongue- or lip-tie may experience speech difficulties, feeding challenges, sleep issues and other related problems. If your baby is frustrated at the breast or bottle, constantly hungry, gassy, spitting up, or struggling to gain weight, they may have a tongue or lip tie.
The tongue and lip are made up of a very complex group of muscles and important for all your oral functions. This is why a tongue or lip tie can lead to problems with breastfeeding, feeding, dental, speech, sleep or even breathing. These issues can even persist into adulthood, causing sleep issues, headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain and speech problems, among others.
